VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan consoling family members of the five fishermen awarded death sentence by a Sri Lankan court, at Thangachimadam, on Friday.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should prevail upon the Sri Lankan government and secure the release of the five fishermen, who were awarded death sentence by Colombo High Court on a charge of drug trafficking.

Talking to reporters after staging a demonstration, seeking the release of the five fishermen at Thangachimadam near here on Friday, he said that Mr. Modi, before leaving for Nepal to attend the SAARC summit, should exert pressure on the Lankan government through diplomatic channels and secure their release.
