Twenty nine nominations have so far been filed for the casual elections to fill up existing vacancies in rural local bodies of Madurai district. Elections to fill up panchayat union ward member, village panchayat president and panchayat ward member posts are to be held on July 22.
According to a press release from the District Collector, C. Kamaraj, three nominations have been filed for panchayat union ward member election in T. Kallupatti and Kottampatti panchayat unions; nine nominations for president post in Kovilankulam and Kuppalnatham panchayats; and 16 nominations have been filed for election to fill up panchayat ward member posts in Vellalur, Pottapatti, Veeraperumalpuram, Adanur, Kalvelipatti, Kuravakudi, Perungamanallur, Velambur, Keezhamathur, Vilacheri, Mannadimangalam, Kuravakudi, Valandur, Thadayampatti and Uranganpatti village panchayats.
Filing of nominations for the vacancies closes on July 10.
Scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on July 12 and withdrawal will be allowed till July 14. Counting of votes will be taken up on July 24.
