Nilakottai MLA R. Thangadurai was brought under police security ring during his visit to MLA office in Nilakottai in order to protect him from indignant voters in his constituency here on Monday.
Amid tight security, he came alone to the MLA office this morning and stayed for some time. Only a few party functionaries met him and majority of the cadres did not come. His office was also guarded by the police personnel mobilised from Batlagundu and Nilakottai police stations.
When contacted, Mr. Thangadurai said that he did not opt for security. The police came on their own. Later, he clarified that security was essential for him to assess ground reality of his constituency independently. “Earlier, no such security was needed for me. When reporters like you are attacked in Madurai, security is essential for me to protect myself from such attacks.”
He did not visit any village in his constituency including his native village of Agraharapatti. He went to Dindgul after spending sometime at the MLA office in Nilakottai. Sources said that the party high command had instructed the MLAs to visit their constituency and sit in their office to know the pulse of voters.
