The members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday staged a demonstration here condemning the lathicharge by the police on fishermen and BJP leaders, who staged a sit-in protest here a few days ago.

H. Raja, frontline leader of the State BJP, led the protest. They raised slogans against the police for attacking the fishermen instead of solving the problem amicably. He alleged that a few policemen including an Inspector targeted the BJP's district leader Durai Kannan even after he revealed his identity.

He said that tough action must be taken against the policemen concerned. He also demanded an inquiry over the incident.
