A 61-year-old man was awarded 10-year imprisonment by the Fast Track Mahila Court here on Monday for sexually abusing his 8-year-old granddaughter.
According to prosecution Irudhaya Dasan of Chinnamuttom, a coastal hamlet near Kanniyakumari, took her granddaughter and two other girls to nearby Keezha Manakkudi village on January 2, 2016. Even as the three girls were playing, Irudhaya Dasan took her granddaughter to a secluded place and raped her.
When the victim cried in pain, her parents came to know about the crime and filed a complaint with All Women Police at Kanniyakumari, who arrested him under POCSO Act.
Fast Track Mahila Court Judge John R.D. Santhosham also slapped a fine of ₹ 50,000 on him.
