Around ₹5.82 lakh was seized by officials until Wednesday evening.
As on Wednesday morning, a total of ₹17.82 crore, including ₹3.62 crore in cash and ₹14.19 crore worth material, was seized on 154 occasions since the Mode Code of Conduct came into force. A total of 16 FIRs have been registered by the officials.
On Tuesday, officials seized ₹3.94 lakh, including ₹3.44 lakh in cash. Officials had seized ₹15,900 from Paulraj, a DMK functionary who was distributing cash for votes near Sattankulam.
The Election Control Room has been receiving over 40 complaints on a daily basis over the last few days, many of which are regarding cash-for-votes.
Vilathikulam constituency, which would be facing bypolls, has had a majority of the complaints. On Wednesday, number of complaints as per Assembly segment: Thoothukudi - 6, Vilathikulam -15, Tiruchendur - 2, Srivaikuntam - 7, Ottapidaram - 8 and Kovilpatti -7. As many as 21 complaints were registered from Vilathikulam alone on Monday.
The C-Vigil App, using which voters can register complaints online, has received only a handful of complaints this election season.
