A Madurai city special police team comprising Sub-Inspector Karthickselvan and five police personnel, formed by Madurai Commissioner of Police, confiscated 180 kg of ganja from a car in which ganja was allegedly smuggled from Andhra Pradesh.
The team intercepted the car at Thondamandurai toll plaza in Perambalur district, around 12.45 p.m. on Saturday, as they received information about ganja being transported in it.
However, as the car did not stop, head constable Senthilvel opened fire on the car. No one was hurt in the firing. The police then arrested two men, M. Pada Muniyasamy of Kamarajapuram, Madurai, who has a murder case on him in Keerathurai police station, and S. Valividumurugan. Muniyasamy who had come out on bail was allegedly absconding.
The police seized the ganja from the car that was transported from a hill 30 km near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. The accused are kept in Mangalamedu DSP camp office.
