Madurai District Court advocates on Wednesday celebrated the 131st Birth Anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar, the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution. Madras High Court Judges Justice R. Subramanian and Justice N. Sathish Kumar offered floral tributes to the portrait of B. R. Ambedkar at the District Court campus.
The event was organised by the over 150-year-old Madurai Bar Association. Justice R. Subramanian spoke about the contributions of Ambedkar to society and the role played by Ambedkar as an economist, jurist and politician. The judge said that equality can be achieved when people come together with the mindset to work towards the same goal.
Justice N. Sathish Kumar said Ambedkar gave India its sacred document, the Constitution. The judge spoke about the important role played by Ambedkar as the Chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution, the contribution towards ensuring fundamental rights and striking a balance.
Principal District Judge P. Vadamalai was present at the event. Madurai Bar Association President A. Nedunchezian and its Secretary S. Mohan Kumar welcomed the gathering and Advocate P.S. Nagarajan proposed a vote of thanks. District Judges, advocates, District Legal Services Authority members and other court staff attended the event.
