Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva was admitted to a private hospital here on Friday after she was found to have low blood pressure.

Officials of the Public Relations Department of the Medical Trust Hospital told The Hindu that doctors were monitoring her condition. She is now at the cardiac intensive care unit of the hospital, they said.

Ms. Alva was in town to inaugurate the national conference of the Council of Catholic Women of India.

District Special Branch sources said that Ms. Alva, who was staying at the Government guesthouse here, was taken to the private hospital after she was found to have low blood pressure. The medical team, accompanying the Governor, held preliminary check-up and advised that she could be taken to the nearby hospital for further investigations. Police officials said that her condition was stable.
