UDF report on Palakkad poll defeat tomorrow

Report prepared by Balakrishna Pillai

May 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:07 am IST - Kochi:

Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai may have exited the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF), but a report prepared by him on the defeat of UDF candidate and Janata Dal (U) leader M.P. Veerendrakumar in the Palakkad constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections will be submitted to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for action on May 9.

The UDF subcommittee that met in Thiruvananthapuram on April 28 had tasked UDF convenor P.P. Thankachan with submitting the report. Delay resulted as the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and the Kerala Congress (M) were not represented in that meeting.

On Thursday, Janata Dal (U) State general secretary Sheikh P. Harris met Mr. Thankachan at Perumbavoor, near here, seeking speedy action on the report as demanded by Mr. Veerendrakumar.

“I met him to discuss organisational matters. The report on the defeat will be submitted on May 9,” Mr. Harris said.

The report is understood to have accused a few Congress leaders in Palakkad of failing to work for the victory of Mr. Veerendrakumar. “Action will be taken against those identified in the report,” he said.
