Twenty20 candidates to be recalled on bad performance

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Kochi:

Sparking off a debate, the Kizhakkamablam-based Twenty20, a corporate social responsibility venture of the Rs.1,200-crore Anna-Kitex group of companies, has said that it has fielded candidates in this local body polls with the rider that they would be recalled by the electorate if their performance is not up to the mark.

Announcing this at a meet-the-press here on Friday, Sabu M. Jacob, chief coordinator of Twenty20 and the managing director of Kitex Garments, urged political parties across the country to emulate the model.

He said that Twenty20 strives towards making Kizhakkambalam the best panchayat in the country. “The idea is not to challenge mainstream political parties,” he said.

There was nothing wrong in recalling candidates if the electorate who voted them into power in the first place loss confidence in them.

Candidates fielded by Twenty20 have been told that they would have to put in their papers within 24 hours of the receipt of a signed demand from two-third of the voters in their respective wards.

Only those who have agreed to it have been fielded, Mr. Jacob said.

The candidates have been chosen based on clear yardsticks.

They fight this election based on a 20-point manifesto aimed at the development of the panchayat.

Twenty20 has fielded candidates Kizhakkamablam and Vazhakkulam panchayats and one ward in the district panchayat.
