Piravom constituency accounts for the most number of voters in the district, and Ernakulam the least number of voters as per the recently published draft voters’ list.

Piravom had 1,91,415 voters compared to 1,44,985 voters in Ernakulam constituency. Perumbavoor constituency accounts for 1,66,973 voters, Angamaly 1,57,207, Aluva 1,70,356, Kalamassery 1,79,003, Paravur 1,81,364, Vypeen 1,60,115, Kochi 1,65,773, Thripunithura 1,88,528, Thrikkakara 1,70,807, Kunnathunad 1,67,353, Muvattupuzha 1,69,608, and Kothamangalam constituency 1,53,715 voters.

Transgender voters registered an increase of three. Thripunithura has the highest concentration of women voters where there were 1,059 women for every 1,000 men voters whereas Muvattupuzha with 994 women voters for every 1,000 men had the lowest concentration of women voters. Kanayannur and Muvattupuzha taluks registered an increase in the number of polling stations.

The draft voters’ list had 15,701 voters less than the one published last year. This was after the voters’ list was drawn up using specially designed software aimed at avoiding duplications. This helped eliminate the names of the deceased, transferred, those having their names in voters’ lists in more than one place.

Meeting held

A meeting of all tahsildars and election deputy tahsildars chaired by Deputy Collector (elections) Dinesh Kumar was held here on Monday to discuss about the arrangements prior to the election.

Drawing up the list of polling stations in flood-affected areas, special arrangements for the differently abled, communication plan and transportation plans were among the topics discussed at the meeting.

Those who attain 18 years as on January 1 next year can get their names enrolled in the voters’ list till November 15.

An awareness campaign targeted at youngsters, women and transgenders will be undertaken under the Election Commission’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Programme.

Special campaigns will be organised focusing on flood-hit areas and colleges. Block Development Officers will be specially assigned for the purpose.
