The entire village of Nellimattom, still recovering from Friday’s tragedy that killed five children, turned up here on Sunday to bid a tearful adieu to Gouri, a 10-year-old girl, killed in the accident.

Among those who arrived at Punnakkal House to pay their last respects to the child were the students and teachers of Vidya Vikas School.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed even as Dev Sarang, the younger brothe r of Gouri, performed the last rites and the pyre was lit around 12 noon. Unni and Omana, the grandparents of Gouri, who had come from Washington to see their beloved child, were inconsolable. While Aneesh, father of the young girl, stood silent, Sheeba, her mother, was seen wailing all along.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb and Kothamangalam MLA T.U. Kuruvila were among those who visited the family on Friday.
