Six police stations in Ernakulam were found not maintaining the Personal Cash Declaration Register during the State-wide surprise inspection titled ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ carried out by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Tuesday.
The register is used to declare the cash carried by a police official at the time of entering the work premises daily. The anti-corruption enforcers in Ernakulam found that the personal cash declaration registers were missing in Ernakulam Central, Cheranalloor, Palluruthy, Angamaly, Kunnathunadu and Kothamangalam police stations.
The officials found that the Station House Officers concerned failed to maintain the registers as per the prescribed rules. The laxity on the part of the official made it difficult for the vigilance team to ascertain whether the officials in the stations concerned were holding unaccounted money.
The vigilance team found several vehicles without proper registrations lying idle at the six stations. Most of them lacked registration certificate books and even ignition keys. Twenty-seven such vehicles were found in the Angamaly police station in violation of rules.
Receipts to petitioners
The inspections also revealed that the police officials concerned were not issuing receipts to the petitioners.
It was a violation of the government order and repeated circulars that issuing receipts to the petitioners was mandatory as per law, said the VACB officials.
The vigilance officials pointed out that the investigation into various cheating cases was moving at a sluggish pace in the six stations. No action was found taken in cases where first information reports were filed four to five months ago.
The surprise raids across the district was carried out by a team led by K. Karthick, Superintendent of Police, VACB, Ernakulam Range and assisted by DYSPs including R. Ashok Kumar, T.U. Sajeevan, T.M. Varghese, and D. Ashok Kumar.
