Scam accused commits suicide

A 47-year-old man, an accused in a multi-crore cheating case in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his apartment near here. The deceased was identified as Jithu V Menon, 47, native of Palakkad, who owned the firm Arctic Diamonds and Jewellers Private Limited. According to Police, Jithu was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in Brahmapuram on Sunday evening. There were cases pending against Jithu at Kadavanthra, Ernakulam Central Police stations and Crime Branch, Economic Offence Wing, Kochi.

Infopark police have registered a case on unnatural death. Jithu and five others were accused in the Rs 30-crore scam. The agency, run by Jithu, operated by collecting monthly instalments from investors by offering to return their investments in the form of gold. The police had arrested him once in September last year and was later released on bail.
