Revamp likely for overbridges in city

January 13, 2013 09:40 am | Updated 09:40 am IST - KOCHI:

The South overbridge is likely to be rebuilt as a four-lane one as part of the Kochi Metro project.

The Railway Ministry will earmark funds in its forthcoming budget, to fund a portion of the expenses. It would also bear 50 per cent of the cost of reconstruction of the North overbridge.

This was decided at a meeting held in Delhi recently to discuss issues related to Railways in different metros.

The Railway Board also assured that discussion would be held with Southern Railway authorities for sparing some land near the railway quarters in Ernakulam South for the construction of a metro viaduct, sources in Kochi Metro Rail Limited said.

“The Kochi Metro project would not merely be a mode of transportation but would also be a lever for the urban renewal of Kochi. Our endeavour is to integrate all modes of transport to provide commuters hassle-free traffic solutions,” said Elias George, MD, KMRL.
