The Excise Department has intensified raids and vehicle checks in the district to avoid any untoward incidents during this Onam season. A close watch is being kept on toddy shops, bars, liquor outlets, and clubs besides manufacturing units and sales outlets of Ayurvedic tonics (Arishtam).
A round-the-clock control room has also been opened in the excise division office.
Vehicle checking has been intensified along major roads.
Monsoon Marathon
Registration has been completed for the 21-kilometre half marathon to be held as part of the Cochin Monsoon Marathon organised by the Excise Department on August 12.
Deputy Excise Commissioner and marathon committee convener A.S. Ranjith said that all registrants participating in the marathon will be insured. Those who have registered should collect their registration kits after producing their ID documents at the marathon cell of zonal office on August 10 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on August 11 from 10 a.m.
Marathon participants should report at Maharaja’s College Ground on August 12 at 5 a.m. and those who have registered for the fun run at 6 p.m. Online registration (www.vimukthimarathon.kerala.gov.in) remains open for the fun run.
