Teachers in CBSE schools have recommended that school-based examinations need to be immediately followed by an inspection to ensure transparency and quality at par with the board exam.
The faculty members feel that fewer students were opting for school-based examinations.
Quoting the recent results of Chennai region for Standard X examination, teachers said that the trend revealed a marked preference of students for board-level examination.
Out of the 1,52024 students who appeared for the examination, 97, 259 appeared for the board-level examination.
“We feel more transparency and balanced approach is required in the school-based examination,” they said.
Central valuation
Managements of various CBSE schools have urged the board to consider issuing different types of certificates for board-level and school-based examinations.
They have suggested that valuation of school-based exam papers could be done centrally.
Referring to the delay in announcing the results of board-level examinations for Standard X and XII compared to the declaration of results of the State-level public examinations, school representatives pointed out that this has been affecting the chances of many candidates in getting timely admission to higher studies in the State as well as outside.
Delay deplored
In most of the cases the candidates belonging to the State-level board examinations get better chances in grabbing seats in reputed institutions.
The board needs to ensure that such delays are not repeated. The CBSE School Managements Association has requested the CBSE to start a regional centre here.
Even though Chennai region covers the entire southern States and Lakshadweep, more than 50 per cent of CBSE schools in Chennai region function in Kerala.
“More than 15 lakh students and around 1.5 lakh employees of CBSE schools in the State have to approach Chennai office for various requirements.
Opening a regional office in Kochi can certainly solve their administrative problems to a considerable extent,” an association representative said.
