The Vadakkekkara police have registered three separate cases against a 70-year-old priest of a church for sexual assault under Sections 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

He stands accused of misbehaving with three minor girls during the period since August 7. One of the girls was allegedly targeted twice, the police said.

The girls were produced before the magistrate and their statements were recorded as per section 164 of CrPC. The alleged incident came to light after a teacher overheard the girls, who are classmates, discussing their experience.

The teacher alerted the Childline authorities who in turn informed the police. “We recorded their statements and they are believed to have given a similar statement before the magistrate. We will proceed to arrest the priest once we receive a certified copy of the statement given to the magistrate,” said police sources.
