M.V. Shaji, husband of Preetha Shaji who had protested against the takeover of her property, has agreed before the Kerala High Court to hand it over to the Thrikkakara village officer.

The court directed the village officer to file a report and place the keys of the building before the court after it was handed over.

The court issued the order on a contempt petition filed by M.N. Ratheesh against the City Police for not implementing the High Court directive to evict Preetha Shaji’s family from the property. Ratheesh had bought Shaji’s property in an auction conducted by a bank following the failure of the latter’s relative to repay a loan. Shaji had stood as guarantor to one Sajan for a loan of ₹2 lakh by mortgaging his property of over 22 cents at Pathadipalam in 1994.

However, as Sajan defaulted in repaying the loan, the bank took steps to recover the amount from the guarantor and sold the property in auction to Ratheesh. Preetha had been resisting efforts by the authorities to evict her from the property, by staging protests.
