Thousands of devotees participated in the morning mass and the Way of the Cross procession held at different churches in the city in connection with the observance of Good Friday.

Believers commemorated the torment that Christ underwent before he was crucified. Good Friday services were held in churches across the city.

The main event was the remembrance of the last seven words that Jesus Christ said on the cross.

Cardinal Mar George Alencherry led the services held at St. Mary's Basilica in Ernakulam.

Suggesting the need for greater tolerance and harmony among the communities, he said that people should imbibe the good values prescribed by various religions. The Cardinal also stressed the need to ensure peace among the various sections while reminding the importance of unity and brotherhood.

The St. Thomas Archdiocesan Shrine at Malayattoor Kurisumudy witnessed unprecedented rush as groups of pilgrims flocked to the centre. Pilgrims carrying crosses climbed the hill, commemorating the suffering of Jesus Christ. The shrine at Malayattoor is expected to witness a good turnout on Saturday also.
