Port Day celebrated

As many as 22 major importers and exporters were awarded for their impressive performance by the Cochin Port Trust at a business session in connection with the Port Day celebrations here on Tuesday.

Marine Products Development Authority chairperson Leena Nair presented the awards in categories such as high performance, logistics services, stevedoring and cruise handling.

Ms. Nair appreciated the efforts of CPT employees during the last two years to turn around the organisation to achieve operational profit by controlling costs and improving procedures. She commended the measures in providing facilities tailor-made for sectors such as seafood, cashew and coir.

Port Trust chairman Paul Antony presented awards to 97 port employees for their outstanding performance.

A ship, Lagoons, was opened for visit by the general public at BTP Jetty as part of the 87th anniversary of the first ship entering the inner harbour in Kochi.

Prakash Iyer, president, Steamer Agents Association; Abraham Philip, president, Customs House Agents Association; Mohammed Haneef, trustee; C.D. Nandakumar, trustee; C. Unnikrishnan Nair, traffic manager; K.G. Nath, financial advisor; Gauri S. Nair, secretary; and Jimmy George, senior deputy traffic manager attended the function.
