The sordid story of the sexual assault and rape of a minor girl has emerged with the Varapuzha police still on the hunt for four persons in this connection.

The incident took place at Thirumuppam within the Varapuzha police station limits in the early hours of October 19. According to police sources, she was picked up by the gang of four from Marine Drive and brought to Thirumuppam in a car. Two of them then allegedly raped her within the car.

The police have no clue about the accused and are solely led by the description provided by the girl.

Same victim

Incidentally, Munambam police had arrested two persons on November 2 on the charge of sexually abusing the same victim within the Munambam police station limits on two separate occasions in August.

The parents of the nearly 15-year-old girl had filed a missing case at Kalamassery police station on October 16 after she didn’t return from her school. She might have reached Marine Drive from where the gang might have lured her with the promise of dropping her at home, police sources said.

After the incident, the accused abandoned her at Ernakulam railway station. On finding the girl crying, a passer-by talked to her and secured her father’s mobile phone number. The father asked the passer-by to keep her safe till the police arrived, sources said.

A team from Kalamassery police station soon reached the spot. Based on her statement, the police registered a case and produced her before the Child Welfare Committee. The accused have been slapped with sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and IPC Section 376 (rape).

Since the incident had taken place within the limits of Varapuzha police station, the case was transferred, along with the medical certificate proving that she was sexually abused, to the Varapuzha police who since then have been hunting for the accused though they are yet to be identified.

The girl was taken to Marine Drive in the company of women police officers in plain clothes in an effort to trace the accused, but in vain. “The accused is suspected to frequent Marine Drive during night time. However, it is not possible to take the girl, who is being lodged in a child care institute, there during the night,” sources said.
