Police station for Infopark

January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Kochi:

After years of waiting, Infopark at Kakkanad will finally get a police station to focus on law and order issues arising in and around its campus.

The police station will be inaugurated by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday.

The new police station will be carved out of the area previously under the Thrikkakara and Ambalamedu police stations.

“The police station will have a circle inspector as its station house officer. Infopark has given us about 45 cents of land on the campus, but the station is coming up in a rented building,” said City Police Commissioner K.G. James.

Talks about setting up the station near Infopark had been going on for at least three years, with availability of funds and land coming up in its way repeatedly. Police said that patrol units were operating in the region regularly to thwart crime and that these would be strengthened once the station began functioning.

Plans to set up a cyber police station at Infopark had also been in the works for a while.
