The State Women’s Commission will take stringent action against attempts to attack women through the social media.

M.C. Josephine, Chairperson of the commission, said here on Tuesday that the body would decide on the course of action in such cases without delay. The number of cases involving attacks against women through the social media was going up, she said, according to an official release issued here.

Ms. Josephine said that efforts to project women in bad light should be curtailed across the media. Those targeting women were using indecent language. Action was taken against those responsible for making such derogatory comments against a physically-challenged civil engineer recently. The police should also act immediately on complaints related to atrocities on women, she said.

The Chairperson said that a decision on the case involving students and teachers of Maharaja’s College here would be taken after studying the issue further. It would be taken up at the meeting of the commission on June 15. The future of the students had to be taken into account before acting on it, she said.

The commission considered 113 complaints at the adalat held here. Thirty-eight cases were resolved.
