Panel to discuss students’ commuting woes

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - KOCHI:

The Students Travel Facility meeting held here on Thursday decided to constitute a committee to discuss the issues faced by students while commuting.

A Motor Vehicles Inspector will be in charge of the committee which will have representatives of student bodies, the police, Motor Vehicles Department and bus owners.

Student representatives cited instances of students being ill-treated by the bus crew.

The committee decided to give travel concession cards to students travelling in private buses by August 31. KSRTC buses too will extend the facility to students. The identity card issued by educational institutions can be used to avail ticket concession till concession cards are made available.

District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam, who chaired the meeting, said that bus crew must mandatorily sport a badge bearing their name.

Fifty buses will be fitted with CCTV cameras as a pilot project to ensure passenger safety.
