Organisations agitating against toll collection have protested against NHAI collecting revised toll rates from motorists using Edapally-Aroor NH Bypass from Monday morning.

The Ernakulam district committee of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) denounced the concept of toll collection and demanded an end to it. “Levy toll and its frequent revisions are a challenge to people of Kerala. The State government must intervene and stop toll collection along the highway since over a dozen cases challenging toll collection are pending before courts. Our party will intensify agitations against toll,” said Joseph C S, the party’s district convenor.

The NH Samara Samity, a conclave of organisations agitating against imposition of toll too has demanded stoppage of toll collection in Kerala. “Toll booths in States like Maharashtra and Delhi are being closed down, following widespread protests against levying exorbitant toll. Kerala government must direct Vigilance and Intelligence wings of the police to probe malpractices in toll fixation and collection and also the nexus between politicians and toll contractors,” said Hashim Chendampilly, Samity convenor.
