: The four-day workshop on mass transit projects in Kochi, which concluded here on Wednesday, urged the State government to establish a Unified Metropolitan Transportation Authority (UMTA) along with the Kochi metro rail project.

The workshop, organised by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited, also acknowledged the immediate need for pedestrian-friendly roads.

Speaking on the occasion, KMRL Managing Director Elias George emphasised on the need to revamp the transport network in Kochi so as to enhance their efficiency.

He also said that a detailed master plan of an integrated intermodal transport system for Kochi would be prepared based on the various suggestions that came up during the workshop. — Staff Reporter
