Monsoon fest gets under way

The eight-day Monsoon fest, ‘Poornojwalam 2015’, began at Tripunithura with the major set panchavadyam led by Cherplassery Sivan and Kariyannur Narayanan Namboothiri at the Layam Koothambalam on Sunday.

The inauguration was done by poet S. Ramesan Nair. Musician K.G. Jayan and Kalamandalam Kesava Poduval were among the dignitaries present. The function was followed by a Hindustani concert by Savani Shinde Sathe. Organised by Veda Dhwani Cultural Trust, the festival aims to provide a stage for traditional and classical art forms, encourage new and local talent and help artists in crisis.

Among other programmes of the week, Sopana Sangeetham by Ambalapuzha Vijayakumar will be held on Monday followed by trithayambaka led by Mattannur Sankaran Kutty.

Carnatic music by Nityashree Mahadevan, Chakyarkoothu by Painkulam Narayana Chakyar, Odissi by Dona Ganguly and Mohiniyattam by Neena Prasad are the other highlights.
