A modern emergency rescue fire tender was launched at the Gandhi Nagar Fire Station in the city on Tuesday.

District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla flagged off the well-equipped vehicle, which could be put in use when fire accidents or road trauma or other such incidents render rescue operations difficult.

Features

Costing ₹1.1 crore, the new fire tender carries with it several emergency equipment like breathing apparatus sets, protective suits, Ambu Bags to give artificial respiration to victims and a shoring system that would enable firemen to put up a supporting platform to help rescue people when there is a building collapse or landslip. The vehicle also has a LED floodlight system and a telescopic light mast.

There are also several utility items in the vehicle that could come in handy at emergencies – multi-gas detector, oxy-acetylene cutting set, safety belts, lifting chain, pulling and lifting machine, portable electrical drill, lift keys, rechargeable headlight, pneumatic leak sealing kit, chainsaw (petrol and electrical), concrete breaker, steel cutter, high pressure pneumatic lifting bags, exhaust blower, hydraulic rescue tools, manual pump, hydraulic light weight aluminium jack, glass breaker with seat belt cutter, walky talkies, current detector and a 5.5 KVA generator.

Firemen in the district have been trained to use the equipment. The vehicle, one among the five bought in the State, would also be used for emergency rescue operations in the neighbouring districts.
