Mahatma Gandhi University has turned down a request made by three of its affiliated colleges to regularise the admission of over 50 candidates admitted after the deadline prescribed for various undergraduate programmes.
A meeting of the centralized allotment process (CAP) monitoring committee held on December 11 observed that DC School of Management and Technology, Vagamon; SCMS School of Technology and Management, Aluva; and Sree Narayana Arts and Science College, Chittar, admitted 39, 12, and three students respectively after the date of closing of admissions (August 24).
“Since the procedure for admission was notified well in advance, the non-compliance of the procedures by the colleges i.e, non-remittance of fee due to the university in the prescribed chalan and non-uploading of the details in the online admission portal before the date of closing of admissions shall not be condoned,” said an order issued by the varsity.
The varsity had issued several communications, notifications, circulars besides issuing the prospectus regarding the admission procedures and the dates on which various procedures are to be completed. The colleges had ignored all the instructions and alerts issued by the university, it said.
The committee pointed out that granting permission to regularize such irregular admissions shall invite similar demands from other colleges and students, whose requests were rejected earlier.
It has also rejected all requests made by the college principals/authorities to regularize the irregular admissions made after the date of closing of admissions.
Balakrishna Menon, Principal of DC School of Management and Technology, rejected the university findings while stating that the college had not received any official communication regarding the closing date from the university.
Radha Thevanoor, Principal of SCMS School of Technology and Management, said that the varsity had first announced the closing date as August 31 and later changed it to August 24.
The School has challenged the varsity order in the court. The management of Sree Narayana Arts and Science College was not available for comments despite repeated efforts.
