Kochi metro made hay during the strike with some 27,448 commuters using the service till 8 p.m. on Tuesday, which is a leap from 20,962 passengers in the corresponding period on January 3, which witnessed the first hartal of 2019.
Sources said metro services were unaffected by the general strike. More passengers would have been there had offices and business establishments remained open and fully functional, they said. An average day during a festive season witnesses at least 50,000 commuters using the train service. The commuter figure for January 7, Monday, was 34,666 till 8 p.m.
