An unidentified man was killed after being run over by a speeding train near Edappally on Tuesday.

Officials said the accident took place near the railway overbridge at Edappally in the wee hours of the day. “The victim was about 45 years old and had a dark complexion. His body was mutilated beyond recognition in the impact of the hit,” they said.

The death reported on Tuesday was the third such accident being reported on the Ernakulam-Angamaly stretch over the last one week. Last week, a 57-year-old person died after being run over by a train near Ponekkara. On Monday, a 20-year-old woman was hit by a train at Angamaly station while trying to climb on to the railway platform.
