A man hacked his wife to death reportedly doubting her fidelity at their residence near Kaloor on Saturday night.

Saju Sulal Sett, 39, of Alappuzha hacked his wife Sheeba, 35, around 10 p.m. The murder was reported to the police by neighbours who had rushed to the spot on hearing the victim’s scream.

“Sheeba was conducting her daily prayers when the sudden assault took place,” officials said. The woman, who sustained deep cuts on her body, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to injuries later. Afsa, the victim’s mother, also suffered injuries on her abdomen, palm and foot during the attack and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi.

The accused, who also sustained injuries on his right palm, was also admitted to a hospital and is currently under police surveillance.

After the attack, the accused attempted to flee the spot but the police soon chased him down with the help of local residents.

Saju, who works in the Gulf, returned only a few days ago. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had gown suspicious of his wife’s fidelity.

The couple has three children.
