Man arrested for abandoning infant

: A man was arrested on charge of raping a minor and abandoning the baby born to the girl.

The three-day-old child was found lying in an autorickshaw parked in front of a house at Vazhakkala here on Sunday. Local residents heard the child crying continuously and found her lying in the autorickshaw on her own. Police arrived on the spot and took her to the Ernakulam General Hospital.

Following an investigation, police found that the child had been born at a private hospital in Paravur and traced her parents. The child’s father Roufal, 28, of Chendamangalam, was arrested by the police. . Police said that he had been assaulting the girl repeatedly for the last three years. He abandoned the child two days after she was born. Police have charged Roufal with rape and sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The child’s mother was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. She is in the care of the committee whereas the infant is in the hospital.

Man held

A man was arrested on charge of molesting a boy who took tuition classes with him. Suresh Kumar, 49, was arrested from Eroor when he was allegedly trying to go into hiding.

Police said that the accused allegedly took the teenager to the terrace of his house and molested him.

Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
