: The LDF Kochi Corporation committee will lay siege to the corporation office on May 15 against the ‘misrule and corruption’ in civic administration.

The activists of the front will start the agitation at 6 a.m. A. Vijayaraghavan, the Central Committee member of the CPI (M), will inaugurate the agitation, K.J. Jacob, the CPI (M) leader in the Kochi Corporation, told media persons.

The committee had carried out protest marches in all the 74 divisions of the local body highlighting the failure of the civic administration. Booth-level meetings and campaigns have also been undertaken in the corporation area, he said.

Presenting a charge sheet against the civic administration, Mr. Jacob said the authorities ignored the development needs of west Kochi region during the last five years. Many parts of the city were experiencing water scarcity. The Pazhoor drinking water project initiated during the previous LDF regime could not be completed, he said.

The civic administrators were aiding the large-scale construction groups to violate laws and encroach upon the water bodies while ignoring the legitimate needs of economically weaker sections of the society. The local body suffered pecuniary loss in allotting the lamp posts for the display of advertisement boards, he alleged.

Mr. Jacob said several ruling front leaders had also highlighted the corruption involved in the acts of commission and omission of the civic administrators. The failure of the civic administration had invited the wrath of the High Court of Kerala, he said.'LDF leaders T.C. Sanjith, C.K. Manisankar, C.A. Shakkeer, K.J. Basil and Sabu George were also present at the press conference.
