Mayor Tony Chammany announced the proposal during the signing of an agreement with the Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce for the upkeep of Broadway under the Broadway Reborn project.

GCDA would also cooperate with the proposed nightlife zone. A meeting of various organisations would be convened shortly to fine-tune the project which would be implemented with private participation. The possibility of having food mall at Durbar Hall after 8 p.m would be explored in consultation with the district collector and the police. Corporation secretary V.R. As part of the project, 52 ornamental lamps will dot the stretch between Shanmugam Road and Canal while more streamlined parking facilities would be arranged. There would be specially designed mobile food stalls between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m and a specially designated area for night shopping.
