Kochi Port Day celebrations today

Commemorating entry of first ship into Cochin Harbour in 1928

Kochi Port Day will be celebrated on May 26, recalling the entry of the first ship into Cochin Harbour in 1928. The construction of the inner harbour in 1921 is considered as the event that transformed Kochi into a modern port. The first ship, SS Padma , entered the inner harbour on May 26.

A business meet will be held as part of the programmes on Friday from 2 p. m. to 3 p. m. at the Samudrika Hall. During the programme, the best performing port users will be honoured. Alok Srivastava, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, will be the chief guest.

This will be followed by a commemorative meeting from 3.30 p.m. in which the outstanding employees of the port will be honoured. P. Raveendran, chairman, Cochin Port Trust, will be the chief guest, and A.V. Ramana, deputy chairman, will be the guest of honour. This will be followed by entertainment programmes.
