Chief Secretary Tom Jose inaugurated two 14-storey towers aimed at housing 112 persons attached to the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) wing of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) at Muttom on Monday.

He handed over keys to the staff quarters named Metro Vihar. “Kochi Metro is slowly expanding. We are awaiting the Central government’s nod for the second phase of the metro. All four scheduled corridors will be readied soon. Within a few years, the metro will be the backbone of Kochi, solving transportation issues,” he said.

Speaking at the function, KMRL Managing Director Alkesh Kumar Sharma said the construction of the quarters was completed in two years. The employees of O&M wing should be available round-the-clock and their residences near the work place would improve efficiency and work culture, he said. The project cost was ₹49 crore.
