: The CBI court in Ernakulam on Thursday posted for hearing on Friday a petition by CPI(M) leaders Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrashekharan seeking permission to go to Kannur to exercise their franchise in the coming local body elections.

In a petition filed on Wednesday, the duo, seventh and eighth accused in the Thalassery Fazal murder case, also stated that they would report before the court on November 3 after staying in Kannur for two days.

Mr. Rajan is contesting to the Kannur district panchayat from Pattyam division, a CPM stronghold, while Chandrasekharan is the party candidate in Chellath ward in Thalassery Municipality.

Social media campaign

Barred from entering Kannur district, the duo has taken to social media for campaigning in the elections. As part of it, Karayi Rajan released a video message of 1.25 minutes that is being circulated among the voters through WhatsApp.

Earlier, the duo had obtained permission from the court for moving to Kannur to file their nominations.
