The Jacobite group of the Malankara Church has opened an office in Piravom town to handle issues related to the parish after the Piravom St. Mary’s Church (Valiapally) was officially handed over to the Orthodox faction following the Supreme Court verdict of July 3, 2017.
The office has been opened to handle issues raised by parishioners even as the mass on Sunday was offered by the Jacobite group officially at the Piravom old seminary. The mass was preceded by morning prayers. A Jacobite group spokesperson said the cases related to the chapels under the Piravom Valiapally would come up for court hearing later in the month. There are several chapels under the Piravom Valiapally.
Meanwhile, the Orthodox faction welcomed the way the Puthenkurisu St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s church was officially handed over to the Orthodox group by the Jacobites following a court verdict.
There was no tension or stand-off between the two groups, said Father Johns Abraham Konattu of the Orthodox Church in a press release. He said there was much satisfaction in the way the transfer of the church had taken place.
