Irregularities in voters’ list alleged

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - KOCHI:

CPI (M) district secretary P. Rajeev has alleged widespread irregularities in voters’ list updation and allocation of polling booths ahead of the local body polls.

He said the system to add new voters was lax and called for State Election Commissioner’s immediate intervention and action against erring officials. Besides extending the timeframe to apply for inclusion in the electoral register from the present June 15 (in corporation areas), booth-wise list of voters should be reworked given the fact that booths in several LDF strongholds have been crammed with over 2,000 voters in blatant violation of the stipulation that the number of electorate per polling booth should not exceed 1,500, Mr. Rajeev said in a statement here.
