Inter-squadron cross-country championship at INA

An inter-squadron cross country championship was conducted as per international norms for spring term-2012 at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala here, on Sunday.

A press release issued by the INA here on Sunday said that the event was flagged off by Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, Commandant of the academy. A total of 613 trainees from its four squadrons participated in the event, in which the trainees ran a course of 12 km across the varied terrain of Ezhimala.

There were 28 women trainees among the participants, who had to run a six-km stretch. Angre squadron emerged champions and Cadet Sudhir Tomar from Marakkar squadron secured the first position, clocking 39 minutes and 40 seconds. Among the women trainees, Assistant Commandant Deepika Rathore came first with a timing of 25 minutes and 56 seconds.

Vice Admiral Chauhan presented the trophies and individual prizes to the winners. He said cross-country was a sport that knit together skills such as resolve, team spirit, and physical endurance.
