Four held on cheating attempt charge

Maradu police on Friday arrested four persons on charge of attempt to cheat Rs. 35 lakh through the exchange of Brazilian currency notes, which were no longer in use.

A team led by sub-inspector A.B. Vipin arrested Suresh Kumar, 41, Venu, 45, and Christian, 34, of Thiruvananthapuram and Abhilash, 35, of Kanyakumari, in connection with the case.

They attempted to cheat Sumodh Mohanan, a resident of Nattakam, who runs a foreign currency exchange agency in Tripunithura, using Brazilian currency Real of the denominations of 1,000 and 500. Currency notes of these denominations were no longer in use, the police said.
