E. P. Jayarajan, Minister for Industries, will lay the foundation for three new plants at the State-owned Travancore Cochin Chemicals at Eloor on Thursday. The new facilities include a 75-tonne per day capacity caustic soda plant; a 100-tonne caustic concentration unit and a 60-tonne hydrochloric acid plant.
The three plants will cost around ₹60 crore. TCC plans to increase its total caustic soda production to 350 tonnes per day, which is expected to raise its business volumes to ₹450 crore a year from the present ₹250 crore. The company plans to carry this out in two phases. The first phase will see production going up to 250 tonnes per day and business turnover is expected to go up to ₹350 crore. The new caustic soda plant will be power-efficient and savings in electricity will be substantial.
The caustic concentration plant will cost around ₹10 crore and the production capacity will be 100 tonnes per day. The 60-tonne hydrochloric acid plant will use hydrogen and chlorine from the increased production of caustic soda. TCC will also replace the 30-tonne capacity old plant. The project will cost around ₹10.5 crore.
