A murder accused made an attempt to escape from the Ernakulam central police station before being nabbed by the officials on Tuesday.

The arrested was identified as Krishna Naik, a native of Odisha who allegedly killed his friend Kailash near the Ernakulam South Railway station on Sunday evening. According to police, Krishna Naik tried to escape by jumping from the second floor through a narrow window even as the sleuths were recording his statement at the office of Circle Inspector Ernakulam Central.

He, however, sustained injuries due to the impact of the jump, which rendered him immobile.

Krishna Naik and friend Kailash, both daily wage workers, had a dispute over some financial issue on Sunday and in a fit of rage Krishna stabbed Kailash using a sharp-edged weapon.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
