Direct weekly service to Europe from ICTT

November 15, 2011 10:54 am | Updated 10:54 am IST - KOCHI:

The International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) announced on Monday that the NEMO/EAX Service would now make a weekly call at ICTT, thus making it the first weekly service vessel connecting Kochi directly to Europe.

MV Lahore Express, a Hong Kong flag vessel, is now berthed at ICTT with an exchange of 550 TEUs. The vessel will make service calls to the major base ports in Europe such as Genoa, Tilbury, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Le Havre, said a press release here.

“This is a very proud occasion for us at DP World as the commencement of the NEMO/EAX service from ICTT will offer the trade in this region faster transit and reduced supply chain cost. This is also recognition for our technological advancements at ICTT and our commitment to emerge as one of the most important ports for the subcontinent region,” said K. K. Krishnadas, CEO of DP World Kochi in the press release.

New milestones

It said that the ICTT Vallarpadam had embarked on achieving many new milestones with the help of its partners. The support from Cochin Port Trust by way of marine costs comparable to other regional hubs, as well as Container Corporation of India's commitment to connect the terminal with frequent services to and from the hinterland is positioning ICTT as a strong propeller of India's growth in the coming years, the press release said.

With crane operations at 30 moves per hour per crane, productivity at ICTT is comparable to the best international ports, the press release said.

Connecting key South Indian centres like Bangalore, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Salem, the ICTT here has convenient access to rail, road and sea modes of transport to important ports like Tuticorin and Mangalore.
