: More cases of dengue and leptospirosis had been reported from the district, perhaps, because surveillance is stronger, said District Medical Officer Kuttappan. But, there is timely intervention, he added.

No case of Kala Azar or Visceral Leishmaniosis was reported in the district, but the Health authorities are keeping tabs on all communicable diseases, he said.

The preventive measures are being taken up by the Health Department in co-ordination with epidemiologists’ report on vector index in the district, he added. On Wednesday, 817 fever cases were reported in the OP department at various government hospitals and 64 were admitted as IP cases. The Health authorities had reported eight suspected cases of dengue and three cases that were reported earlier were confirmed. With this, the total suspected cases of dengue this year from January were 268 of which 105 were confirmed.
