A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court for a directive to provide all benefits and privileges to transgenders in the State as directed by the Supreme Court.

According to a petition filed by High Court lawyer Basil Attipety, the Supreme Court had directed the Centre and all State governments to address the grievances of transgenders. Tamil Nadu and Delhi governments had already come up with a policy to implement the directives of the Supreme Court. The State government was yet to take steps to comply with the apex court directives, the petitioner said.

He also sought a directive to the State government to sanction Rs.10,000 each a month as allowance to every transgender in the State. He said the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment should be directed to provide free education, food, shelter, and clothing to them.
