A husband-wife duo was found hanging inside their house at Ambaymala near Chottanikkara in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Jain and Prakunthala, both aged 52. The Chottanikkara police suspect it to be a case of suicide and have registered a case for unnatural death under Section 174 of the CrPC.

According to the police, the childless couple had their share of quarrels and had one on Tuesday night too. “At one point, the wife reportedly walked out, and the husband approached Manikandan Nair, who lives in a room alongside the house rented out by the couple, complaining that she was not to be seen,” they said.

Later, around 1.30 a.m., Manikandan Nair was woken up from his sleep by Prakunthala alerting him that her husband was found hanging inside the house.

“Manikandan Nair went to alert neighbours and on return found the door locked. Subsequently, neighbours broke open the door and found the wife hanging next to her husband,” said Arun Dev, SI, Chottanikkara. The post-mortem did not reveal anything suspicious, the police said.
